Kat's Random Updates

This is mainly a site to keep in touch with my friends and family who feel, and rightfully so, that I have been inconsiderate, and iggying everyone by not being a better communicator. Sorry! Hope this makes up for it, or hope it is a start!

Waiting...

Maybe it's just me, but doesn't waiting stink? I've always been an impatient person anyway, so throw that into the mix, with staring at a phone to ring, or 'watching a for the pot to boil' syndrome, and you have one jittery Kat! I just want to KNOW already. What will my new job title be? What are my responsibilities? How much more money can I make? ;-) I was supposed to get this phone call on Tuesday, then it got postponed to Wednesday, then yesterday, and then it was supposed to be at 7.00 AM this morning. I get another Outlook reminder re-scheduling it for 12.30 pm today. At 12.30 pm I get the call! Yeah! I mean NO, it was another re-schedule for 2:00 pm. Arghhhh! Just tell me already! LOL I hate the suspense! But on the other hand, I am still grateful for the change, and the new team. I am grateful for being in a position where I can negotiate. I am no longer buried, doing two peoples work and getting half a person's pay. It's 1.23 pm... and counting! And I wait! (This kind of reminds me of waiting until the Harry Potter and Half Blood Prince came out, and I was first in line at Costco... but the doors weren't open yet. I was out there like the Mervyn's Lady.. "Open! Open! Open!" LOL). Is this what expectant fathers used to feel like before they were allowed into the delivery room? You knew it was going to be good news, no matter what (or at least you hoped it would be), you just didn't know when it would happen... or what the result would be! I hate waiting! I'm an instant gratification kind of gal. Give it to me NOW! Sigh. I guess I have never learned the patience, long-suffering, yada yada yada lesson! Let me think of a list of things that take too long: 1. Traffic 2. Traffic Lights 3. Waiting for your food at L&L 4. Gas lines at Costco 5. Cashier lines at Costco 6. Downloading Bit Torrents of Anime 7. Waiting for Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire Movie 8. Getting a Tax Refund 9. Getting back test results from your doctor 10. Waiting for Susan and Terri to post a bloody blog! ;-) And it's only freakin' 1.30 pm now! SHEESH!

HARRY POTTER: GOF

OHMYGOSH! Can you believe that it's almost time!!! I am counting down the days! In exactly 30 days, and six hours we get to watch HARRY POTTER, GOBLET of FIRE! YEAH!!! I have read each novel several times, but not near as many as Keala... who reads them every month, time after time. The pages are ready to fall out! LOL! I think she has the entire 6 novels memorized word for word at this point! I think a group of us are going to Hollywood for the premiere. YES! Posted by Picasa

Dodging Bullets

So whether it's a case of a lucky roulette roll, or dodging bullets, whatever you want to call it, I think I have been extemely blessed in having a new career move. Our company laid off 145 people, or 8% of the employees, in order to save $20M of expenses moving forward for 2006.

This drastic of a move usually happens at the close of our fiscal quarters, or month, but never mid month. There was a lot of upper management positions that were eliminated as well ... and that was a good thing. We have one of those companies that had way too many many chiefs, and not enough indians. Now things appear to be much more balanced.

I am so fortunate to not have lost my job. As a matter of fact, I was promoted! I was assigned to work on the largest account our company has, and I report directly to the Client Relationship Manager. I will be working in a management position, organizing all of the training as well as assisting with business analysis of the account.

I thank my Heavenly Father for this opportunity, and especially for the fact that I was able to dodge the bullet. I have a distinct feeling that my name was on that 'hatchet list'... I might be wrong, but that's a suspicion. It just feels odd that out of no where I get picked up and assigned to this account, and promoted. Very strange. But very wonderful! Thanks to everyone who had a hand in it!

So Cal Fires Too Close For Comfort

There's nothing worse than hearing that there are fires in Van Nuys, Chatsworth, Topanga Canyon, Bell Canyon, which all surround the Valley and are within a few miles from home, while I'm here in Atlanta, so far away. I just hope everyone is safe. I heard they have an evacuation center at Canoga Park High School. I can't wait to fly home tonight!

Mosaic, Cape Town, South Africa

This ride goes all the way up Table Mountain.

To the Right: Rodrik and Geoff, Trainers @ Mosaic.

Mosaic Folks

Hain Joubert
Eduan in Full Nigerian Regalia
Liam, Rodrik and Len at Tea
I loved "Casual Day" which was more like Halloween for me!
Everyone had such a good time, and there was even a costume parade at "tea time." LOL
Eduan's costume won a prize!
Hain almost won but since he's always strange, I guess they figured this wasn't too different! J/K!

Friends from Cape Town

I'm just slow uploading these photos. I should have had them up a few weeks ago, but 'shoulda woulda coulda' yano! I loved staying with Jeanne and her family in Paarl! The scenery is very much like Napa Valley... wine country. Their home is 150 year old Victorian which has a wonderful wrap around porch. Isn't is a beauty? The inside is full of antiques, teak wood, wooden flooring, and is just lovely!

South Africa

Talk about a Trip of a Lifetime! I had never imagined in my wildest dreams that Cape Town, South Africa was as beautiful and had such great folks as it does! Being from the land of Aloha I thought we had dibs on paradise! However I should have known from my experience in Cancun, and in Guatemala that there are truly other places on this earth that can take your breath away! I enjoyed meeting the Corporate Communications Group of Mosaic, and loved the warm welcome as well as the crazy personalities that they shared! Thank you!

Catching Up with Technology

So everyone I know has a blog (web blog)... and at first I thought, kinda concieted ain't it? I mean, who wants to read someone else's random thoughts, and why would I want to spend time blogging them. But then, it's like the cold... it's contagious. And rather than just try and have a 'web site' that does does something spectacular, like sell something, it might be useful to update friends and family every once in a while, since I'm such a bad communicator. Ask any of my friends or family... I don't write...I don't call... I suck at keeping in touch. But this might be my saving factor. If I take the time to randomly write down thoughts, and then email folks like a bulletin, maybe I will be forgiven in the near future for ignoring them all this time. Well probably not, but it's a start! So here goes... Kat's Random Thoughts... please send me some updates when you can.
